I thought it would be helpful to write a blog post about our last trip to Dalby Forest. We live within forty five minutes and drive past often.
Dalby Forest is well signposted and there is plenty of parking. The postcode is YO18 7LT. You buy one parking ticket and can move around the car parks as they are quite spaced out if you have young children. The Forest is over 8000 acres so there is plenty of room and with walking, cycling and running there is plenty to do on a dry day. Dalby Forest is also a working forest so be sensible when moving around.
There is a Zog activity trail at the moment. You can buy packs in the shop if you want to but they are not necessary.
We park in the visitor centre car park and like to walk around towards Haygate. If it’s a warm day it’s lovely to play in the river and enjoy a picnic. It’s a nice fairly level walk with benches along the way. We used to love Adderstone Field as that is where the Gruffalo sculptures are and an amazing play area.
If your organised there are areas where you can enjoy a bbq and for the more adventurous there is also a go ape area.
The forest was lovely and clean and well maintained with plenty to keep you entertained all day. There is a shop and a cafe and also bike hire within the forest.
Thornton le Dale is also beautiful and a great stop off at the bakers to pick up picnic supplies.
